Job Description

Company Overview: Topnotch Management (TNM) is a boutique sports management agency representing some of the world's top tennis and pickleball players. Through Topnotch Events, we manage, own and operate and several top-tier professional racquet events, including Tennis in the Land, a WTA 250 event, the Cleveland Open, an ATP Challenger 75 event, Squash in the Land, a PSA Silver event, and the Dow Tennis Classic, recently named the Best WTA 125 event in the Americas. About the Event Manager role: Reporting to the Director of Events, this position will hold a key role within Topnotch Events, providing event management across the full event portfolio. The work will be dynamic and varied, and a candidate needs to be able to balance a high degree of organizational competency to an office environment. This includes project management across different events, timelines and priority lists, coordinating across event stakeholders (operational vendors, venues, Tour/governing bodies of sport, sponsors, staff and contractors, etc.); this work requires a high degree of interpersonal skills, advanced speaking and writing abilities, and an agility to work across diverse groups. Complementing this scope of office and organizational work, during event windows the role will be hands-on and highly active, managing the on-site operations of professional sporting events. The position requires high degrees of diligence across projects and a comfort with ownership and responsibility of specific events areas. A successful candidate will be highly collaborative and have a strong sense of internal initiative and accountability. They will need to be able to navigate fluid situations that events present, expect for problems to arise and welcome the opportunity to find solutions, and offer a balance of easily integrating into collaborative team dynamics while also maintaining a high rate of personal productivity and project ownership. We are a tight, cohesive team, and we're looking to add someone whose presence and work increases the capabilities and potential of our Events Division. The role is best suited to someone who is hungry to grow and advance within the sports industry, and as a company we are proud of our record extending pathways of growth and leadership across employees based on merit. Responsibilities: Work alongside internal events team and external partners to successfully plan and manage professional sports events, including full ownership and responsibility of specific event areas. Operational contact for various events and operational areas. Project manage diverse aspects of professional tennis and squash events, owning workflow and execution, including attending/organizing necessary calls, site visits, meetings and other communications. Develop or support development of staffing plans and assignments. This role has no direct reports, but will at times direct outside vendor groups, interns, etc. Manage tournament and event inventories and equipment, including supporting organization of Topnotch Events warehouse space. Some events we own and operate ourselves, others we operate on behalf of clients; at every event, this candidate needs to work within the scope and goal of our involvement to deliver the best possible event outcome. We want to run best in class events and annually improve each event edition; the best candidate for this role will share that approach. Anticipate and forecast, whether it's revenue, costs, challenges or opportunities; this position is responsible, alongside the entire Events team, for connecting the planning process to the on-site execution and reality of the event we bring to life. Within the scope of this role and the work of Topnotch Events there are also efforts required related to marketing, signage/event presentation, sponsorship delivery and partner relations; this is not a core responsibility of this position, however it does touch these areas and any experience across these areas will support a high quality of work. Key Skills, Traits and Experience: Hardworking attitude and strong work ethic, a natural inclination towards diligence, thoroughness and completion of responsibilities. An aptitude for both organization and office-based event management, combined with an aptitude for on-site event work, which can be physical, require long, dedicated days and nights during event windows. The ideal candidate would have demonstrated these traits at prior roles, and actually enjoy the energy and excitement derived from event management work. 2-4 years of related event/gameday management and planning experience, with prior on-site event management experience required. Interpersonal skills need to be high and able to navigate leading discussions and managing work across diverse groups such as: high-level sponsors, technical groups (broadcast, Electronic Line Calling groups, etc.), professional athletes, fans, and colleagues, and operational partners (shower/restroom, janitorial, concessions, security) all within, potentially, a matter of minutes. Highly organized and detail oriented. While this is not a spreadsheet-oriented role, candidate needs to be comfortable organizing and reading data, contracts and budget documents, schedules, invoices, etc. Experience with sports events preferred, and of all sports tennis event management experience is ideal; however prior sports experience is not mandatory. An interest in learning and education, an appreciation for understanding new approaches and concepts, able to evaluate an approach for improvement and greater efficiency. We want this position to support company growth and inherently this candidate needs to match that with an appetite for personal and professional growth as well. Candidate needs to be comfortable traveling for weeks at a time, and potentially with short notice. Most professional tennis events are 1 week, and with set-up and teardown event operational windows can be 10 days+, and sometimes trips come up on short notice. We are certainly flexible and try to schedule travel in advance, but any hesitancy or challenges in this area would make the role not a great fit. Half of our events are in Cleveland, others are around the Midwest/US. Need a valid drivers license, and should have or be open to getting a passport. Any of the following would be preferred but not required. Additional languages Capabilities across graphic design, LED/arena ribbon board management, IT solutions, website management, other related skills. Can you operate a forklift? Would you be up to learn how? A passion for something. Could be tennis, and that's nice if you're working in tennis, but could be anything else. Status: Full - time Start Date: June, 2025 Location: Based out of our Cleveland Office Compensation: DOE Job Questions: Why do you want to work in sports, specifically tennis? AEG
